Cypress "Cy" Catwell (they/them/theirs) is a Japanese to English translation and localization editor, as well as a freelance visual novel editor and QA. Their main body of work includes light novels, Japanese fiction, doujinshi, manga, audio dramas, visual novels, and video games. When they’re not at their day job, Cy also works as a freelance journalist and pop culture critic, as well as a staff editor and writer for at Anime Feminist, with previous bylines at the Anime News Network and Siliconera.Before beginning their work in localization, Cy was a participant in the JET Program. They worked and served the community of Fukushima City in Fukushima Prefecture, the southernmost prefecture of the Tohoku region of East Japan, and the third largest prefecture in the country. From July 2016 to August 2020, Cy taught thousands of students across ten different senior and junior high schools in the Nakadori region. They also had the joy of teaching a wide range of students, including students with disabilities and specific needs ranging from hearing support, low vision/blind students, and immunocompromised students.Currently, Cypress is located in Bellingham, WA where they continue their work with J-E translation and localization as well as working for Whatcom county's premiere—and first—charter school.
